Wanting to know more about Lindsey Brown the designer ?

From a young age, her mother a talented embroiderer taught her to sew and her grandfather, a very skilled leather worker encouraged her creative talent and to explore new mediums from ceramics to fine art. Her passion for textiles developed at school, where in sewing class Lindsey taught herself how to adapt clothing patterns and create new outfits. By the age of sixteen, Lindsey was designing, printing and selling t-shirts to stores. She went on to study printed textiles and fashion design at university and furthered her design training with a Master Degree in Design and Manufacture receiving a highest level of distinction.

From a young age, Lindsey was immersed in a world of creativity, thanks to the talented and artistic members of her family who continually inspired and encouraged her. Her mother, a gifted embroiderer with an eye for intricate detail, taught Lindsey how to sew, passing down both skill and a deep appreciation for the beauty of handcrafted work. Her grandfather, a master leatherworker, recognised Lindsey’s creative spark early on. He nurtured her curiosity, encouraging her to explore different artistic mediums, from hand-built ceramics and painting to weaving and crochet techniques. From an early age, her family and art teachers supported her desire to express herself through her hands and creative imagination.

This strong foundation in creativity and craftsmanship became the bedrock of Lindsey’s passion for textiles. At senior school, this passion flourished further. In sewing class, Lindsey quickly went beyond the standard curriculum, teaching herself how to adapt clothing patterns and create her own original designs. By the age of sixteen, her entrepreneurial spirit was already thriving, she was designing, printing, and selling her own line of T-shirts to local market stalls in her home town of Leicester.

Her love of textiles and fashion led her to pursue formal training, studying printed textiles and fashion design at university. Determined to deepen her technical knowledge and refine her creative practice, she continued to complete a Master’s Degree in Design and Manufacture, graduating with the highest level of distinction. 

Her design career

During a gap summer between her final year at art college, Lindsey Brown worked as a swimwear designer in the beautiful gothic city of Barcelona. Whilst working in a design studio all summer long in this hot Spanish city, her love for summery vacation styling began. Realising there was a gap in the British market for great quality silk and luxury resort wear, that can be worn from daytime to night in warm climates. After graduating Lindsey Brown returned to her design roots and created a resort wear collection which included her renowned Lindsey Brown signature styles, the silk kaftan we call Manhattan and the bloused drop waisted cotton dress called Paloma. These iconic garments are still part of the Lindsey Brown collection today, as the shape, the overall fit and embellishments are timeless. Today, the brand’s luxury resort wear collection is still the perfect mix of dreamy dresses and timeless cotton beach dresses and floaty silk kaftans dresses to wear day or night.
