Finding the ideal wardrobe for Caribbean Cruisewear
We’re often asked what to pack for a Caribbean cruise so our resortwear style advisors have gone through their holiday albums and gathered their thoughts to come up with some simple style tips to make it easy to plan a glamorous and versatile cruise wear wardrobe with three main occasions or outfits to consider on a tropical cruise:
1. Daytime: What to wear by the pool or at poolside bars ...
Most cruises follow the same rules as luxury resorts, asking guests to wear swimwear cover-ups when having lunch or sipping a daytime cocktail so it’s advisable to pack a cover up (or two) that you can slip over your swimsuit to protect your skin when you’ve had too much sun and that also keeps you cool and comfortable when you’re relaxing in a restaurant or bar.
Natural fabrics such as cottons or silks are best in humid climates as they’re soft and breathable helping you to stay cool calm and collected whatever the temperature.
If suitcase space is tight then loose fitting kaftans or sundresses are the ideal choice as they’re easy to pull on over any swimwear and at the same time they’ll ensure you can float effortlessly from poolside to bar and back again.
2. Daytime: What to wear when going ashore ...
The ideal going ashore wardrobe will depend on the island and your itinary but there a few stylish wardrobe staples that you’re guaranteed to wear throughout your cruise.
First to pack are tailored shorts in a soft, non-creasing fabric such as cotton as they’re flattering and practical at the same time. You can wear them during the day with sleeveless tops or short kaftans and then dress them up in the evening with a silk off the shoulder or glamorous cold shoulder top.
Which brings us to the perfect separates. If you’re lucky enough to be going on a cruise in peak season you’ll enjoy some hot sunshine so will need loose fitting, long sleeve tops or kaftans that you can easily pack in your bag to cover up from the midday sunshine.
3. Evening Attire: What to wear for smart casual or smart dinners.
One of the most important tips from our experienced cruise advisors is to wear something that’s tailored, feels comfortable and fits well as the Caribbean humidity means that ill-fitting styles won’t be very forgiving and can make for an uncomfortable and sticky evening.
To make the most of your holiday wardrobe we would recommend choosing styles and designs that you can dress up or down, simply changing your accessories to create truly versatile outfits. Popular styles include maxi dresses, jumpsuits or shimmery silk kaftan tops that can easily add a touch of glamour to a simple pair of white jeans.
