Guide to Kaftan Styling

Made from light, cool natural fibres, a kaftan is a superb option if you want to accessorize your swimsuit or bikini and cover up. Or, to make it more appropriate for daytime trips, formal occasions and nights out, simply add accessories to instantly take your kaftan to an upper level.

Choose the right kaftan and you can make a chic statement and add a luxury feel to your outfit. Designer kaftans never look dated and styling opportunities are endless.

Our guide to choosing the right kaftan for you:

Why choose Kaftan Tops

Kaftan tops tend to be short, waist length or just longer, usually a maximum of 85cm and are perfect for petite or slim figures to wear as designer beachwear or poolside cover-ups.

They also suit all body shapes when worn as outerwear during the daytime, styled over white shorts or skinny jeans to add a touch of glamour for any trip out of your resort.

Printed Shorter kaftans or silk kaftan tops also make the perfect evening choice for any resort holiday or luxury cruise, simply style with white jeans and metallic sandals or wedges to wear to dinner.

Choosing the right length of kaftan

A designer cover up will help you to look gorgeous while staying cool and showing just as much skin as you feel comfortable with.

Knee length kaftans make the perfect beachwear cover-ups and are long enough to be able to walk through a hotel lobby or around the poolside.

They are usually loose fitting with a floaty look and feel and we would recommend avoiding tight fitting kaftans as they will become hot and sticky in any tropical climate. Instead look for fabrics that are soft on the skin and a style that is loose but also flattering for your body shape.

Maxi kaftans make a fashion statement as they are much longer so more dramatic. They tend to suit taller ladies usually over 5ft 6inches due to the style and the amount of fabric.

Like any kaftan they are loose fitting, but if you prefer a style that is not too voluminous we recommend choosing styles with hidden seams that create the illusion of a maxi kaftan in a way that is flattering.

When to wear a Kaftan Dress

Kaftan dresses come in a range of styles from bandeau strapless dresses, to drop-waisted dresses that sit above the knee to longer maxi dresses.

Bandeau beach dresses are the perfect choice to wear when walking along the beach, sat at a poolside bar or beach side restaurant to cover-up whilst avoiding strap marks.

Crinkle Cotton is the best fabric for the perfect beach dress that can be worn straight from your beach bag as it won’t crease and you can easily shake off any sand for truly effortless beach style.

Drop-waist dresses tend to sit on the shoulders and just above the knee. With a V neck front and back they can easily be slipped on over a bikini or swimsuit to stylishly cover up at a poolside bar or restaurant.

Covering up the shoulders with a loose fit on the top half, they are very flattering for larger bust sizes and larger dress sizes. A versatile kaftan style, for those comfortable wearing shorter dresses they can quickly be transformed into evening wear with kitten heels or glamorous sandals and a metallic clutch handbag.

Maxi or long kaftan dresses

Long jersey or cotton maxi dresses are perfect for daytime shopping, lunching or for cruise wear as they are more glamorous than a kaftan but are still cool and appear effortless. Choose bandeau dresses to avoid strap marks or show off tanned shoulders.

Silk kaftan or maxi dresses are perfect for more formal occasions such as tropical weddings or any glamorous resort evening occasion as the silk will keep you cool in hot or humid climates.
